DIY Love Birds Decoration

We love this DIY soooo much! Combining natural earth tones and little love birds standing on a branch make for the perfect decoration. We've photographed the process below to guide you through it.

Step One:

What you will need

- craft string

- small stick/branch from outside

- an A4 sheet of paper

- an old page of music, or something similar

- Pen

- Glue

- Hot Glue / Hot Glue Gun

- Pliers

- Pin

Step Two:

Sketch out some curvy and curly birds and hearts. Make sure they are a single line as you will want be able to make it from a single piece of wire. Also try and avoid too many curves, curls and bends - the more you have the harder it is to follow.

Steps Three - Eleven:

Start bending the wire to shape, checking regularly against the template you drew on the paper. Try using the pen to get nice smooth bends or the pliers if you need sharp bends.

Step Twelve:

Now that you have made your birds & hearts, test some positions on the branch to ensure you are happy with the sizes.

Step Thirteen - Sixteen:

Try positioning the wire birds & hearts on the music sheet (this will become the background of your creation). When you are happy, glue the wire to the page then place some books on top to hold everything in position.

Step Seventeen:

Cut out the hearts and birds.

Step Eighteen:

With a pin, determine the point in which the heart will hang (this is not always going to be in the center - in figure Eighteen, the balance point is slightly to the left.

Step Nineteen - Twenty One:

Thread the string through the heart and tie a knot (keeping equal distance of string either side of the knot - this we will soon tie to the branch).

Step Twenty Two - Twenty Four:

Tie both ends of the string back at the height you want to hang the hearts. Then tie another knot going around the branch.

Step Twenty Five - Twenty Six:

Tie a length of string to the branch for hanging it. Once you have hung the branch, use the hot glue gun to glue the birds onto the branch.

Step Twenty Seven:

The finished DIY project. Get creative! Try other things, for example the singing bird in a wreath of branches.
